Fractions Ordering and Missing

Reaching this page, you are interesting in learning how to order fractions and identifying fractions between two fractions.

One of two conditions must exist between 2 fractions ...

They are equivalent or
One is smaller than the other.

If fractions are not equivalent, one of the fractions is smaller than the other, and we can determine which is smaller, all we have to do is :

  1. Determine a common multiple between the denominators of the fractions.
  2. Use the common multiple to create equivalent fractions.
  3. Choose the smaller fractions with equivalent denominators.
  4. Use that choice to determine which of the original fractions is smaller.
Example: Decide which fraction is smaller............. Example: Decide which fraction is smaller ....

If fractions are not equivalent, then there is always a fraction between the fractions, and we can determine which a fraction between the fractions, all we have to do is :

  1. Determine a common multiple between the denominators of the fractions.
  2. Use the common multiple to create equivalent fractions.
  3. Identify a fraction between the fractions with common multiples for the denominator.

By the way,  when we are finding the common multiple between the denominators of fractions,  we say we are finding the common denominator
