Fraction Division

 

 

To divide fractions:

  1. Turn the fraction on the right upside down (reciprocal)
  2. Change the division sign (÷) to a times sign (x).
  3. Multiply the top numbers (the numerators)
  4. Multiply the bottom numbers (the denominators)
  5. Reduce the result of the multiplication

The last example requires you know a trick.   Whole numbers can be written as fractions and these fractions can be turned upside down.  If you have 7, this is equal to 7/1.    If you have 2, this is 2/1.    Using this fact you can solve the following type of fraction division:
