Integer Addition

   Integer Addition:

If the signs are the same, ADD and use the sign of the original integers.

If the signs are different, SUBTRACT and use the sign of the term with the larger absolute value.

The following are examples of adding integers.

Adding Integers
If the signs are the same, ADD the numbers together and use the sign of the original numbers If the signs are different, SUBTRACT the numbers, and use the sign of the number with the larger absolute value.

2 + 4 6 since originals were positive
-3 + (-6) -9 since originals were negative

12 + (-16)   -4 since 16 is biggest
9 + (-5)   4 since 9 is biggest
-7 + 4   -3 since 7 is biggest
-3 + 5   2 since 5 is biggest
